Process Safety Management (PSM) is a 14 element program established by the Occupation Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) intended to reduce chemical related accidents.  While it is only required for organizations that use highly hazardous chemicals above the chemical’s threshold quantity it can be useful in other places as well.  The basic idea is that getting an understanding of the process and the chemicals, using that to predict possible system failures and developing methods to reduce the possible system failures will lead to fewer accidents.

OSHA is an extremely document driven organization.  Everything asked for in the regulation must be written and stored. The regulation can be found under 29CFR 1910.119.
