Every year in the USA, a rail crossing collision occurs every 3 hours, many of them resulting in a person killed. A person might think that these accidents and deaths occur at unguarded crossing, however 70 percent of the ones that occur in the USA occurr at protected crossings. In fact over 500 each year involve semi-trucks. For this reason and to save lives FMCSA has decided to reduce these accidents by creating new rules, providing education, and enforcing rail crossing regulations.
